Etsitty Tsosie. Vintage Navajo Concho Belt. Pre 1937.

$6,500.00

This old Navajo Concho belt with its crossed arrows hallmark is believed to be the work of the well known Navajo silversmith Etsitty Tsosie. The hallmark has been identified by authors Pat and Kim Messier as it conjugates from Barton Wright, Arch Thiessen and others as it appears on early Navajo silver. CG Wallace also attributes example in his catalogue to the artist although, as of our knowledge, none of these iconic squash blossoms are known to be hallmarked. It’s interesting to note the obituary of Etsitty Tsosie (Courtesy Messier: Blog: To Be (Hosteen), or Not To Be, That is the Question…. August 15, 2019; “Oakland Tribune June 24, 1937”) which helps us date the period of this artist’s work.

It really is a spectacular early Navajo Concho belt.

Measures: Buckle: 3.5 w. x 2 7/8ths” h. Conchos: 3.25 w. x 2 5/8ths’ h. Weighs 580 grams overall.

Condition is excellent. The leather strap is a buffalo hide replacement currently at 60” long.
