Exceedingly rare Inuit cup or container from East Greenland, ca. 1885.
This remarkable object is covered with life forms which the Inuit directly associated with their daily culture. Carved from bone and pegged to the exterior of the wooden cup these representations likely held symbolic reference to past events; honoring each in their mystical presentation.
Measures: 4.85" across the widest portion of the rim. 5.85" h.
Condition is overall excellent with minor losses to the bone dot elements at the rim and foot and one bar on the upper lip. All the fetish figures are present and in fine condition.
