Very large extraordinarily beautiful Acoma Black on white olla. ca. 1890
This striking olla from Acoma Pueblo was created ca 1890 and is among the finest examples of Black on White design that we have seen. Three Arabesque floral medallions combine with Ancestral Pueblo geometric symbols to create an artwork that is both fluid in it’s cohesive design while speaking to the observer of a history drenched in tradition. Used as a water jar at the Pueblo this revered example demonstrates why Historic Acoma pottery is so admired by the art community worldwide.
Measures: 13” w. x 11” h.
Condition is overall excellent. Some minor wear to the rim and slight exfoliation of the slip from being used as a water jar at the Pueblo. Minor 1” stabilized crack off the rim as shown.
